Holiday Inn & Science Park, part of the globally recognized IHG Hotels & Resorts group, is currently hiring a motivated Commis Chef (I) to join its kitchen brigade. This is an ideal opportunity for a chef early in their career who wants structured, hands-on training within a well-run, internationally branded hotel kitchen.
As a Commis Chef (I), you’ll be working at the foundation level of the kitchen hierarchy, learning directly from Demi Chef de Partie, Chef de Partie, and senior kitchen staff. IHG properties are known for disciplined, standards-driven kitchens, and this role is specifically designed to build strong technical fundamentals for chefs aiming to progress through the ranks.
What You’ll Be Doing
Your daily responsibilities will include assisting with basic food preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, cutting, and portioning ingredients according to the section’s requirements. You’ll help set up mise en place before service and support senior chefs during cooking, plating, and finishing dishes to the hotel’s exact standards.
You’ll be expected to follow recipes and portion guides accurately, learn proper knife skills and cooking techniques under supervision, and maintain a clean, organized, and food-safety-compliant workstation at all times. During service, you’ll assist with basic cooking tasks as assigned, help keep the section stocked and prepped, and support senior chefs with whatever the pace of service demands.
As you gain experience and confidence, you’ll gradually be given more independent tasks within your section, with senior chefs and the kitchen management team tracking your progress and skill development along the way.
What We’re Looking For
This role is well-suited to candidates with some basic culinary training or up to one to two years of kitchen experience, though highly motivated candidates with strong foundational skills and a genuine passion for cooking may also be considered. A culinary certificate or diploma is an advantage but not always mandatory, especially for candidates who can demonstrate solid practical ability.
You should have a good understanding of basic food hygiene and safety practices, a willingness to learn and take direction from senior chefs, and the physical stamina to handle long, active shifts in a demanding kitchen environment. A genuine eagerness to grow within the culinary field is one of the most important qualities for this position.
