About the Role
The Junior Sous Chef will work closely under the Head Chef and Sous Chef to support daily kitchen operations, ensure consistent food quality, and help train and guide junior kitchen staff. This position suits a chef with solid culinary fundamentals who is ready to take on more responsibility, contribute to menu execution, and grow toward a full Sous Chef title.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in overseeing daily kitchen operations across assigned sections
- Ensure all dishes are prepared and plated according to recipe standards and presentation guidelines
- Supervise, train, and motivate junior chefs and kitchen assistants
- Monitor food quality, portion control, and consistency during service
- Support inventory management, ordering, and stock rotation (FIFO)
- Maintain strict hygiene, food safety, and HACCP compliance across the kitchen
- Step in for the Sous Chef when required, managing service flow during peak hours
- Contribute ideas during menu development and seasonal specials planning
- Coordinate with front-of-house teams to ensure smooth order flow and timing
Requirements
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in a professional kitchen, with at least one year in a senior commis or junior sous chef capacity
- Culinary diploma or equivalent hands-on training preferred
- Strong knowledge of kitchen hygiene standards and food safety regulations
- Ability to lead and motivate a team under pressure
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail
- Flexibility to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as per restaurant demands
- UAE experience in hospitality or restaurant settings is an advantage
