Luxury retail, from the inside

Harvey Nichols is hiring a Stock Assistant in Dubai. If you like organised work, careful handling and being part of a team that keeps a luxury store running, this could be a very good fit. The job may not be on the shop floor, but without it, nothing on the shop floor would be ready for customers.

It is also a role where you can learn a lot. You will see how a major retailer manages stock, how new collections arrive and how big sale periods are planned. If you want a long-term career in retail or logistics, that knowledge is valuable, and many people start in the stockroom before moving into supervisor, visual merchandising or inventory control roles.

About Harvey Nichols

Harvey Nichols is a British luxury department store known for fashion, beauty, accessories and lifestyle products. It has a loyal following in the Gulf, where shoppers expect high standards of presentation and service.

A stock assistant helps make that possible. Every handbag, dress and perfume has to arrive safely, be counted correctly and reach the right place at the right time. It is detail-heavy work, and teams that do it well are valued.

What you will be doing

  • Receive deliveries, check them against paperwork and report any damage or missing items
  • Unpack, steam or tag products and prepare them for the shop floor
  • Move stock between the stockroom and the sales area throughout the day
  • Replenish displays and shelves so the store always looks perfect
  • Keep the stockroom clean, tidy and arranged by brand, size and category
  • Take part in regular stock counts and help find and fix differences
  • Handle returns, transfers and online order items according to company process
  • Follow security and safety procedures to protect valuable merchandise

What you will need

  • Previous experience in retail stock, warehouse or inventory work is preferred, and luxury or fashion experience is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and a careful, respectful way of handling high-value items
  • Basic computer skills for scanning, updating stock records and using inventory systems
  • Good English, both spoken and written; Arabic or other languages are helpful
  • Fitness to lift, carry and stand for long periods
  • Reliability, honesty and the ability to take instructions and work independently
  • A smart appearance, as you may be seen by customers and brand partners
  • Flexibility for shift work, including weekends, sale periods and public holidays

Salary and benefits

Exact pay and benefits were not confirmed publicly at the time of writing, so please check at interview. Retail roles in Dubai commonly include a monthly salary, visa and medical cover, annual leave and sometimes a transport or accommodation allowance.

Luxury retailers often add staff discounts and training too, and they sometimes offer progression, for example from stock assistant to stock supervisor or visual merchandising. Large sale seasons can also mean extra hours, so ask how overtime is handled.

How to apply

    Tips to stand out

In luxury retail, accuracy matters more than speed. During your interview, give a real example of when you spotted a stock mistake, fixed it and stopped it happening again. That tells the hiring team you are careful and trustworthy.

Dress neatly, speak calmly and show interest in the brand. Walk through a store before the interview if you can and notice how the products are displayed, how clean the floor looks and how staff speak to customers. If they ask what you saw, a thoughtful answer will help you stand out from other candidates.
