Some jobs are about keeping people happy. Others are about keeping people safe. A lifeguard does both, and does it quietly, one careful scan of the water at a time. Fitness First UAE is hiring a Lifeguard for its BurJuman Centre club in Dubai, and if you hold the right certification, this is a great role to explore.
About Fitness First UAE
Fitness First is a well-known fitness brand with clubs across the UAE, offering gym floors, group classes and wellness facilities for members of all levels. In a busy club, health and safety isn’t a side task. It’s part of the promise to every member who walks through the door.
What the Role Is About
As a Lifeguard, you’re responsible for watching over swimmers and wet areas, preventing accidents and responding fast if something goes wrong. Most days will be calm, but you need to be ready for the one moment that isn’t. That mix of patience and readiness is what makes a good lifeguard.
Your Main Responsibilities
- Supervise the pool and wet areas actively and keep a constant watch on members
- Enforce pool rules politely and firmly to prevent unsafe behaviour
- Respond quickly to emergencies, perform rescues and give first aid or CPR when required
- Carry out regular safety checks on equipment, signage and rescue gear
- Monitor and record water quality checks, following the club’s procedures
- Keep the pool deck and surrounding areas clean, dry and safe
- Report incidents, accidents and maintenance issues clearly and promptly
- Support members with friendly guidance and basic information
- Work with the club team to maintain health and safety standards across the facility
- Follow all emergency and evacuation procedures
What They Will Look For
- A valid lifeguard certification, with current CPR and first aid training
- Strong swimming ability and good physical fitness
- Alertness, discipline and the ability to stay focused for long periods
- Good communication skills, with English as a minimum
- A professional, friendly and approachable attitude
- Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and holidays
- Previous lifeguard experience in a hotel, club or resort is preferred
- A UAE visa status that allows you to be hired
What Makes a Good Lifeguard
Reaction time is only half of it. The best lifeguards prevent problems before they start. They notice the child drifting towards the deep end, the member who looks tired, the wet patch near the steps. Prevention is the real skill, and it comes from awareness and routine.
Calm communication matters too. Sometimes you’ll need to ask someone to stop running or leave a restricted area, and doing it politely keeps the atmosphere friendly while still protecting everyone.
More Than Watching the Water
Health and safety in a fitness club goes beyond the pool. You might help spot hazards on the deck, report wet floors, check that emergency equipment is where it should be and support staff during drills. Members will also look to you for calm guidance in awkward moments. When you’re visible, approachable and consistent, people naturally follow the rules without needing constant reminders.
Keep Your Certifications Current
Lifeguard, CPR and first aid certificates expire, and employers will want to see that yours are valid. If they’re close to expiring, renew them before you apply. Bring your original certificates to any interview, and be ready to show practical skills if asked.
Career Growth in Fitness and Safety
A lifeguard role can be the start of a longer path. With experience, people move into pool supervisor, health and safety officer or facility operations roles. Others add swim coaching or fitness qualifications and grow within the fitness industry.
Application Tips
- Put your certifications and their expiry dates near the top of your CV
- Mention previous pools, clubs or resorts where you’ve worked
- Keep your CV honest, short and easy to read
- Stay physically fit, because practical checks are common
