About the Employer

Around the Block is a Dubai food and beverage venue built around neighbourhood hospitality: good drinks, good food and a relaxed place where guests feel at home. Baristas are at the front of that experience, because for many guests the first cup of the day sets the tone for the visit. Working here means being part of a team that values consistency, cleanliness and a genuine welcome.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare espresso-based drinks, filter coffee, teas and cold beverages to the venue’s recipes and quality standards.
  • Greet every guest warmly, take orders accurately and recommend drinks or pairings where it helps.
  • Operate, clean and calibrate the espresso machine, grinders and milk equipment every shift.
  • Steam and texture milk correctly, including alternative milks, and produce clean latte art where required.
  • Keep the bar area tidy, stocked and organised during peak and quiet hours.
  • Follow food safety, hygiene and Dubai Municipality standards at all times.
  • Handle cash or card payments accurately if assigned to the counter.
  • Work closely with the kitchen and service team so orders reach guests quickly and correctly.
  • Report low stock, equipment faults or guest concerns to the supervisor promptly.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of barista experience in a cafe, restaurant or hotel is preferred; enthusiastic beginners with strong attitude may also be considered.
  • Good knowledge of espresso preparation, milk texturing and common coffee drinks.
  • Good spoken English; Arabic or other languages are an advantage.
  • A friendly, patient and professional approach to guests.
  • Ability to work standing for long periods and handle busy rush hours calmly.
  • Flexibility with shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
  • A valid UAE visa status or ability to be sponsored, as per company policy.
  • Food handling or food safety certificate is an advantage.

Benefits and Career Growth

Cafe and restaurant employers in the UAE commonly offer a package that goes beyond the basic salary. Exact terms depend on the employer, so please confirm them during your interview. Typical benefits in this type of role include:

  • Monthly salary paid on time under UAE labour rules.
  • Uniform and duty meals during working shifts.
  • Visa and medical insurance as per UAE law and company policy.
  • On-the-job training in coffee quality, guest service and bar management.
  • Chances to grow into Senior Barista, Shift Leader or Supervisor roles.
  • Tips or service charge share, where the venue applies it.

Tips to Stand Out

Employers hiring baristas look for two things above all: consistent drinks and a positive attitude. In your CV, mention the machines you have used, your daily drink volume in busy shifts and any latte art or specialty coffee training. At the interview, arrive early, dress neatly and show that you keep your station clean while working fast. If you are asked to make a drink, focus on the basics: correct dose, steady extraction, well-textured milk and a tidy finish.
