As Barista, you’ll be the face of Okimasu’s beverage program, responsible for everything from espresso extraction to matcha whisking, latte art, and maintaining the kind of consistency that keeps guests coming back. A Day in the Life
Your shift usually starts with equipment checks — dialing in the grinder, checking milk temperatures, and prepping matcha to the café’s exact whisking ratio. Mornings bring a steady stream of regulars ordering their usual flat white or iced hojicha latte; you’ll know several by name within weeks. Midday shifts often mean managing a short queue during lunch while keeping drink quality consistent under pressure. Afternoons slow into a rhythm of small talk with guests, restocking syrups and milk, and prepping for the next shift’s changeover. Closing involves backflushing the machine, breaking down and sanitizing stations, and logging stock levels for the next order.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve specialty coffee and Japanese-inspired beverages (matcha, hojicha, yuzu-infused drinks) to brand standard
- Operate and maintain espresso machines, grinders, and brewing equipment
- Deliver consistent latte art and beverage presentation
- Manage stock levels for coffee beans, milk, syrups, and matcha
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hygienic workstation in line with Dubai Municipality food safety standards
- Provide warm, attentive guest service and handle special requests or dietary substitutions
- Support opening and closing procedures, including cash handling if required
- Collaborate with kitchen and floor staff during peak hours
Requirements
- Minimum 1–2 years of barista experience, ideally in a specialty coffee or café environment
- Working knowledge of espresso-based drinks; matcha/Japanese beverage experience is a strong plus
- Food safety certification (or willingness to obtain one)
- Strong attention to detail and pride in presentation
- Ability to stay composed and efficient during high-volume periods
- Good spoken English; Japanese or additional languages are an advantage
- Available for rotational shifts including weekends
