Not every great swimming job is at a beach club or a five-star resort. Fortes Education is hiring a Lifeguard and a Swimming Coach, and these roles come with something a lot of hospitality jobs do not: regular, predictable working life around students, teachers and a community that stays the same from term to term.
If you love the water, enjoy working with children and take safety seriously, this is a job where you can see your impact. A child who could not float in September and swims a full length by the end of the year is a pretty good reward for a day’s work.
Company: Fortes Education
Location: UAE
Positions: Lifeguard and Swimming Coach
Industry: Education and school sports
About Fortes Education
Fortes Education is an education provider in the UAE. Schools place a lot of importance on sport and water safety, and swimming is one of the few skills that can genuinely protect a child for life. That is why pool staff in a school are held to a high standard. Parents trust the school with their children, and the staff at the pool carry a big part of that trust.
The Lifeguard role
The Lifeguard keeps everyone in and around the pool safe. It sounds simple, but it asks for real attention. You are watching the water, the deck and the changing areas, and you are ready to act in seconds if something goes wrong.
Your main responsibilities may include:
- Supervising swimmers during lessons, activities and free sessions
- Spotting risks early and stepping in before an accident happens
- Performing rescues and giving first aid and CPR when needed
- Enforcing pool rules in a firm but friendly way
- Checking pool equipment, rescue tools and the pool area before sessions
- Helping with basic water quality checks if the school asks for it
What helps you get shortlisted:
- A valid lifeguard certificate, along with first aid and CPR training
- Previous lifeguard experience at a pool, school, club or resort
- Strong swimming ability and good physical fitness
- Patience and a calm voice, especially around younger children
The Swimming Coach role
The Swimming Coach teaches students how to swim, improve and enjoy being in the water. Some of your swimmers will be nervous beginners, and others may be ready for stroke correction or school competitions. A good coach can handle both without making anyone feel left behind.
Your main responsibilities may include:
- Planning and delivering lessons for different ages and ability levels
- Teaching breathing, floating and the main strokes step by step
- Tracking each student’s progress and sharing updates with the sports team
- Keeping safety first in every lesson, with clear rules and good supervision
- Preparing students for swimming activities or school events where needed
What helps you get shortlisted:
- A recognised swimming teaching or coaching qualification
- Experience coaching children, ideally in a school or academy
- Clear communication in English
- A positive, encouraging way of teaching
Why a school pool job can be a smart move
Hotel and beach club jobs can be exciting, but they often come with split shifts, late finishes and weekend pressure. School environments are usually more structured, with a clear calendar and a steady routine. If you are someone who wants stability and a role with real purpose, that can be a big plus. It is also a good path if you want to grow from lifeguarding into coaching later on.
Tips to get noticed
- Put your certificates at the top of your CV, with expiry dates clearly visible
- Mention the age groups you have worked with and how many swimmers you handled
- Be ready for a swimming test, a rescue demonstration or a short teaching session
- Keep your passport copy, visa details and photo ready
- Show that you understand child safeguarding, even if you have not had formal training
